Law Enforcement Must Play Strong Role To Deter Dangerous Use Of Drones

Law enforcement authorities must play a strong role to ensure there are suitable deterrents in place for those flying recreational drones to prevent danger to passenger aircraft, said the International Air Transport Association (IATA), as reported in Reuters. Risks of the increasing use of drones have grown apparent, with a drone hitting an aircraft landing at a Canadian airport in October. There have been several other near-miss cases.

Stronger Role Law Enforcement

“We see a strong role for law enforcement. One of the concerns we have is the unprofessional operation of small recreational drones because people do not understand the risks they could have against manned aviation,”

said Mr Rob Eagles, IATA’s director of air traffic management infrastructure, told journalists last week.
